Press Release - MAC A Tartan Tale Collection

MAC - A Tartan Tale (October 28th - November 4th)

This collection is already up on the MACPro website but should be up on the regular MAC site sometime tomorrow.

Colour Collection - October 28
Viva Glam Holiday Campaign - October 28
Chapter 1 - October 28
Chapter 2 - November 4

What does you plan on getting from this collection, if anything?

To be honest, I'm not really blown away by this one. I really like the packaging but I'm not swooning over very many of the products. I think I'll pick up a couple of the plaid patterned eyeshadows and possibly the 2 new pigments but besides that I'm not overly excited.

Halloween Nail Art - Jack-O-Lanterns

Alright, here's the next nail art design in my Halloween series - Jack-O-lanterns!

This one took quite a long time because I wanted the detailing to be perfect and so a lot of time was spent on just editing and cleaning up lines.

Also, the glitter was an afterthought and I wish I would have thought about it before I started the design of the faces. It took much longer to try and get around the face designs with the glitter than it would have had I just used the glitter on top of the black base. However, when I finished, it just seemed like it was missing something so I added the glitter to make it look more like night time and that the jack-o-lanterns are shining through!

Products:
• China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat
• China Glaze - Liquid Leather (base)
• L.A. Colors Art Deco - White (base for face details)
• Orly - Crush On You (lighter orange)
• OPI - Brights Power (darker orange highlight)
• Color Club - Si Vous Please! (glitter top coat over black base)
• Seche Vite Top Coat

To co-ordinate with her tournaments, sets of polishes from the collection will be released one at a time in January, May, June and August.

The information for the first set of polishes has been released and it will include the black shatter top coat I posted about in the OPI/Katy Perry collaboration as well as a bright green colour called Simple Smashing.

I'm excited to see what the rest of this collection will look like!

Press Release - OPI & Katy Perry Collaboration

Set to release in January 2011 is an OPI collection in collaboration with pop icon Katy Perry. The collection offers 5 shades, one of which is a shatter top coat called Black Shatter.

Left to right:

Last Friday Night (a fierce glittery blue)
Not Like the Movies (a sultry silver)

Want to see what these shades look like on the nail? Check out the video below!

What shades are you excited about?
As always, I'm most excited about the glitter shades! And I'm of course excited about the shatter top coat.

OPI has quite a bit of information released regarding their upcoming collections so I'll be posting about the others as well.

Review - MAC Prolongwear Foundation

Hey everyone!
Today I have a review for you of the MAC Prolongwear SPF10 Foundation.

Here is what the MAC site has to say about the product:

"A long-wear foundation that gives up to 15 hours of wear in any environmental condition. Lightweight and creamy, applies smoothly to provide sheer to medium coverage. Even in hot and humid conditions, controls oil to keep skin fresh, natural and flawless. Provides everyday SPF protection."

I have been using this foundation for a couple of weeks now and I was holding off on doing my review because I wanted to make sure that I had used it for long enough to really provide a complete and honest review.
Well, it's been long enough now and I can finally say without a doubt that I absolutely LOVE this foundation.

It works great for my oily skin and it really does last a long time. Now, I can't say that it lasts for 15 hours because I haven't worn it for that long but I can definitely vouch for it lasting a solid 12 hours and it still looked near perfect after all that time.

This is also great because it really doesn't sink into my pores which is something I have a problem with with my usual Revlon Colorstay Foundation.

I have read a few other reviews that say that it's a little dry which makes it slightly difficult to blend but I have not noticed that problem at all. This might be because I'm used to working with not-that-easy-to-blend foundations (ie: my Revlon Colorstay) but I definitely found the Prolongwear much easier to blend. And in case anyone is wondering, I always use my trusty MAC 109 brush to apply my foundation.

Another plus to this foundation is that it comes in a pump bottle which I LOVE. If anyone read my review on Revlon Colorstay a while back, you'll remember that my main issue was that there was no a pump applicator so it's really refreshing to be able to dispense the right amount of product and not waste a drop.

Furhermore, this product also contains SPF which is always a benefit. However, it's only SPF 10 so it's not going to protect against much but it's still more protection that no SPF!

My one and only issue with the product is the price. Now, it's in the same price range as other MAC foundations but I have gotten so used to paying $15 for my foundation for so long that it kind of hurts to pay double that plus a little more for this one. However, I'm willing to shell out the $$ because this has definitely become my new HG foundation.

I didn't bother with the Prolongwear Concealer since I wasn't sure I was going to like the foundation but now I'm probably going to purchase one with my next MAC order and I'll have a review up for that as well.
I did pick up two of the Prolongwear Lipcremes but I haven't had a chance to test them out yet so once I do, I'll post a review on those also.

Overall, I would and will be repurchasing this product and I would definitely recommend it.

I hope this review was helpful!

Halloween Nail Art - Mummies

Hey guys!

I'm sorry that I haven't been posting that much recently but like I said in my last post, yesterday was my birthday (it was great, if anyone is wondering!) and on top of that, I have a lot of school work that I'm working on right now. I'll be posting more once everything starts to slow down a little, I promise.

In the meantime, I have started my Halloween Nail Art Series and the first in my series is a Mummy design.

The design is mine except for the inclusion of the silly looking eyes. I was originally going to do red eyes to make it more spooky looking but after seeing a mummy video, I much preferred the look of the more silly eyes.

Products:
• China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat
• A franken of China Glaze - White On White and OPI - I Get A Kick Out Of Gold! (mummy wraps)
• L.A. Colors Art Deco - Black

Haul Saturdays - Volume 15

Welcome to Volume 15 of Haul Saturdays - a weekly post chronicling whatever beauty related purchases I made throughout that week.

This week I didn't think I would have much of anything to show you guys but I dropped by Winners last night and came across a treasure of Color Club Collection sets. They were all so cheap that I couldn't pass any of them up! They also had a small selection of China Glaze so I grabbed a few of those as well.

Also, I'm slowly trying to get all of the China Glaze polishes from the OMG collection that I missed out on without paying ridiculous prices and whenever I come across them on eBay for retail (or less), I snag them up.

Winners:
• Color Club Untamed Luxury (Indulgence) set (unfortunately they didn't have the Diamonds set)
• Color Club Wild At Heart set
• Color Club Pardon My French set
• Color Club Poptastic set
• Color Club All About Color set (this doesn't seem to be an actual collection so I'm guessing that it's just 7 colours from the brand's base set)
• China Glaze Reggae to Riches and B-Girlz polishes

eBay:
• China Glaze IDK and LOL polishes

Shopper's Drug Mart:
• Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume

See pictures of all of the Color Club sets after the jump.

Breast Cancer Awareness Manicure

Hey everyone!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so today's design is based on that. I really wanted to use the Breast Cancer Awareness colour by OPI called Pink of Hearts 2010 but it didn't really fit into the design I had in mind. It's still a gorgeous colour, though.

Products:
• China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat
• OPI - La-Pazitively Hot (base colour)
• Revlon - Belle (glitter top coat)
• OPI - Mod About You (ribbons)
• Seche Vite Top Coat

Nails Wheels - The Finished Product (OPI)

Hey guys!

A little over a month ago I posted this post explaining that I was planning on finishing nail wheels for all of my polishes. I have to date finished wheels for all of my China Glaze, OPI and Orly polishes and I'm going to show you some of those wheels today. I will make 3 posts altogether (one post per brand) to show all of my completed nail wheels.

I still want to swatch ALL of my polishes on nail wheels but I've run out of blank wheels and let's face it, these are the brands I use the most (except for Zoya so I need to get a couple of wheels for those polishes for sure).

Anyway, onto the wheels!

Neutral Wheel:

Purple Wheel:

Blue Wheel:

Green Wheel:

Yellow/Orange Wheel:

Red Wheel:

Pink Wheel:

I'm completely willing to post the names of each of the colours if anyone is interested so just let me know. Or, if you just want to know the name of a specific colour, leave a comment below and I'll get back to you.

China Glaze wheels will be next!

Dexter Nail Art

Hey guys!
Today's mani is inspired by one of the best shows on TV right now - Dexter.

Products:
• China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat
• China Glaze - White On White
• Nicole by OPI - Deeply In Love
• Seche Vite Top Coat

*The author of The Daily Nail (check it out if you haven't already, it's an awesome nail blog) did a Dexter themed mani not long ago so I'm giving her credit for the design because she did it first. I will admit that I have wanted to do a Dexter themed mani for a while now but since she was the first to do it (and she did it awesomemly, I might add), she deserves the credit.

The Beauty Blogger/Reader's Dictionary

I have been putting this post together for quite some time now and I finally managed to finish it today. It's basically a guide that provides readers with many of the acronyms/terms that I and other beauty bloggers use on a regular basis.

Let's get to it.

LOTD - Acronym for "Look of the Day" which is basically whatever makeup one is wearing on any particular day.

FOTD - Stands for "Face of the Day" which is basically the same as LOTD (above).

EOTD - Stands for "Eyes of the Day" which is generally posted when one only posts pictures of their eye makeup as opposed to their whole face.

Haul - Some might this that this is an acronym but it actually isn't. A haul is basically what one posts after they've purchased products that they want to show their readers.

Dupe - Again, this is not an acronym, it's just an abbreviation of the word "duplicate". It just refers to when 2 products are very similar or basically the same.

B2M - Stand for "Back 2 MAC" which is a recycling program that MAC Cosmetics offers where customers can bring back 6 of their empty MAC packaging (eyeshadow pots, lipgloss containers, etc) and receive a free eyeshadow, lipstick or lipglass (dependent on where you bring the containers back: a free-standing store, a counter or send them through the mail).
To learn more about the B2M Program, click here and use the dropdown menu to select "Recycling with Back 2 MAC".

MSF - An acronym for a MAC product called "Mineralize Skinfinish".

E/S - Shorthand for "eyeshadow" (not brand specific).

L/S - Shorthand for "lipstick" (not brand specific).

L/G - Shorthand for "lipgloss" (not brand specific).

E/L - Shorthand for "eyeliner" (not brand specific).

P/P - Shorthand for "paint pot" (MAC).

MES - Shorthand for "mineralize eyeshadow" (MAC).

CCB - Shorthand for "cream colour base" (MAC).

UDPP - Shorthand for Urban Decay Primer Potion (a very popular eyeshadow primer).

TFSI - Shorthand for Too Fase Shadow Insurance (another very popular eyeshadow primer).

HG - Stands for "Holy Grail". One would usually call a product their HG product (for example, HG foundation) when they find their favourite, go-to, suits them perfectly product. For example, L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara is my HG mascara.

MA - Shorthand for "Makeup Artist".

MUG - Shorthand for "Makeup Geek" which is an online forum (and also a store) run by Marlena from MakeupGeekTV on youtube. She's amazing! Check out her site here.

MUA - Stands for Makeup Alley which is an online beauty community where users can write product reviews, sell/swap items with other users and more. Check it out here.

LE - Shorthand fot "limited edition" which is when a product or a line of products is only available for a certain amount of time.

DC - Stands for "discontinued" which is when a product is no longer available for purchase.

Nail-specific Terms:

NOTD - Acronym for "Nails of the Day" which is the same concept as LOTD from above except that it's referring to whatever nail polish/nail art one is wearing on a particular day.

VNL - Stands for "visible nail line" which is when the smile line of one's nail is visible through their polish. This can occur when the polish is very sheer or just when it requires another coat of polish.

Tip wear - Refers to when polish starts to wear away/pull back at the tip of the nail and the bare nail becomes visible. This is usually the first sign of nail polish wear and can be sped up when one does a lot of typing (I'm definitely speeding up the tip wear of my current notd doing all of this typing).
Tip wear can be delayed by wrapping nail polish around the free edge of the nail and slightly under the tip of the nail. It will still start to wear away after time but the process will be delayed and manicures will last longer.

Franken - To "franken" a polish refers to when one mixes their own colour of polish using 2 or more colours.

Shrinkage - Refers to when a coat of polish shrinks on one's nail and creates a visible space at the tip of the nail. The effect is the same as tip wear (see above) but shrinkage occurs soon after applying top coat (and can sometimes be the result of using a fast drying top coat).
Shrinkage can be avoided by wrapping the nail not only with the colour polish one is wearing but also with whatever top coat they're using as well.

For use when selling/swapping:

FS - Shorthand for "for sale".

ISO - Shorthand for "in search of".

BNIB - Stands for "brand new, in box".

BNNB - Stands for "brand new, no box".

CP - Stands for "custom purchase". A custom purchase usually occurs when a product is not readily available to one beauty community member and another member who is able to easily access the product kindly purchases it for the other member (using the money the other member would have sent them via paypal or some other method of money transaction) and mails it to them.

(V)HTH - Stands for "(very) hard to find" which refers to a product that is rare.

That's all I could come up with for now. I will update this post on a regular basis if more come to mind.
HTH! (Translated: Hope this helps!)
