Mix & Match Zebra and Polka Dot Nails

Animal print: my go-to nail art choice when I'm feeling uninspired. Luckily, I never tire of a fun animal print mani!

One of my clients recently brought me a photo that she found on Pinterest of a similar design using pink, black and white. We did that on her nails and I loved it so much that I just had to replicate it on my own nails. Sadly there was no watermark on the photo so I'm not sure where it originates from.

I used all China Glaze products to achieve this look. I first started with a base of China Glaze Highlight Of My Summer, a wonderful bright mint creme on all of my nails. Then I used a striper brush and China Glaze White on White to section off diagonal blocks on both my middle and pinky nails. While that dried, I got to work on the black zebra stripes and polka dots on my thumb (not shown), index and ring fingers using China Glaze Liquid Leather. Once those designs were complete, I went back to the white sections and added some zebra stripes over those. Finally, I added a coat of Seche Vite to finish the design.

Thanks for stopping by!

Review & Swatches - OPI DS Lapis & Pewter for Fall 2013

Oh my poor little neglected blog, how I've missed you!

I feel pretty awful about my lack of posting as of late, but I have to be honest with myself and all of you by admitting that wedding planning has basically taken over my life. It's a good thing and I'm definitely very excited about it, but it's also very time consuming, especially when I have to cram all of the planning in in a 4 month period.

When I'm not actually out doing wedding planning things, such as attending wedding shows, meeting with potential florists or my decorator, etc, I'm at least spending my time browsing Etsy or Pinterest for inspirations/ideas. So the wedding is pretty much all I've been thinking about! I've even been wearing the same nail polish for the past 10 days! Shame on me.

Anyways, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I haven't forgotten about you guys or my blog, my time has just been stretched very thin lately, and I honestly can't imagine it getting much better as the big day gets closer and closer. I'll still be posting, so don't count me out of your blog readers, but I simply can't live up to my pre-wedding planning standards of ~5 posts per week. I know you guys will understand. :)

So with all of that said, today I'll be showing you the two new Designer Series polishes for Fall 2013 by OPI. The textured polish trend is huge right now so both of these new additions to the DS line have a textured finish.

Lapis is a royal blue base packed with lots of fine blue and silver glitter. I absolutely love this colour - even with a matte finish it's still quite rich looking. The formula was on the thick side, but still quite easy to work with. My photos show two coats.

Review & Wear Test - CND VINYLUX Weekly Polish

CND has released a revolutionary new line of polishes called VINLYUX which are supposed to last seven days without chipping. I was obviously a bit skeptical, so I decided to pick up a few and do a full wear test.

First off, here's a little info about the VINYLUX system:

  • Innovative system includes a self-adhering Color Coat that eliminates the need for Base Coat
  • Top Coat contains new ProLight Technology which enhances durability over time with exposure to natural light
  • In consumer testing of hundreds of manicures, more than 80 percent of clients had no chipping after seven days
  • VINYLUX dries completely in just eight and a half minutes
  • Comes in 62 fashion-forward polish colors

All of this sounds pretty amazing, right? But does it work? Check out my experience with VINYLUX below.

I'm a girl who likes to change her mani pretty frequently, so I was glad to see that VINYLUX offers a really good range of colours so that I was able to find a few shades that I could see myself actually wearing for a full week. I purchased three shades, two green ones (surprise, surprise) and a coral. Since the coral seemed a bit more season appropriate, that's the one I chose for this wear test.

The shade is called CND VINYLUX Tropix and it's a nice bright and creamy coral. The formula was really great and it applied just as nicely as any good formula nail polish.

Application:

1. The instructions say to cleanse the nail first, so I used my Entity Nail Prep to make sure all traces of oil and old polish were completely removed from my nails. Since I'm a nail tech, the cleanser was something I already had, but you could just use some nail polish remover or acetone.
2. Next, I added two coats of CND VINYLUX Tropix.
3. I waited 5-6 minutes for it to dry a little and then applied one coat of the CND VINYLUX Weekly Top Coat.

The Results:

Day One - These photos were taken pretty much immediately after I applied the CND VINYLUX Weekly Top Coat. The colour is super pretty and it's looking pretty shiny at this point.

Cake Hole is a nearly neon reddish pink crelly (creme/jelly hybrid). I love this colour on me! The formula was really great and my swatch shows two coats.

Bella Donna is a deep royal blue jelly with lots of blue flakes throughout. There's so much depth in this polish! I'm a fan. The formula was really great and I used three coats for my photos.
